こんにちは、ニュースレター担当の池頭です。
新型コロナが発生して丸２年が過ぎました。この２年というのは自分にとってもとても大きな時期です、還暦を超えました！ いままで３０年以上続けてきた海外ボランティア支援事業が突然止まり今も停止したままです。まるで２年早く定年を迎えたようで、ちょっと自分自身としては納得がいかないんです。と、いうことであと数年は仕事を続けていこうと決意しました。
2月になりフィリピンにも観光、語学留学などで入国できるようになりました。でもまだ航空券が成田からの直行便が18万円、入国前にPCR検査と英文での接種証明に25,000円かかります。 これではとても生徒や学生さんたちの予算にはあいません。夏ごろまでには以前のように行きやすいセブに戻ることを期待しています。
セブの子たちはコロナによる生活悪化が続き（親の仕事がない、制限されてきた）そのうえ大きな台風で家をなくした家族もいます。踏んだり蹴ったりの時期が続いてきた分強い意志をもち、目標にむかって努力してくれると思います。
でも、貧困というのは自分たちの意志だけではどうにもなりません。気持ちはあっても生活基盤が弱いと目標を持ち続けるのが難しいです。私たちの役割は子供たちが目標を見失わないようにするサポートです。みなさまの支援がそのサポートにつながります。今後もよろしくお願い致します。

Good afternoon,
It has been 2 years already since Covid has come to our life. It changes my life a lot. I am now over 60 years old, it is retiring age. I hate to think I was forced to get retired by Covid so I decided to continue my work for another couple of years
Border is now open for tourists and study abroad programs since February 10th, it is still hard to come to Cebu because of Covid alert level there is 3 until February 15th. Most of all it costs 180,000yen round trip to Cebu from Tokyo in March, it is still not a good time for the majority of people like me.
Our scholars’ life has been always influenced by Covid situation, parents don’t have jobs to support family, they can’t expect any help from the local government, yet our scholars are focused and so eager to achieve their goals.
